4 Valjeans, 3 Phantoms… and a partridge in a pear tree

November 5, 2010

Just heard via Musical Theatre News that a performance of three of London’s finest Jean Valjeans might be making an appearance in the Royal Variety Show on December 9th. I hope this is true, because Colm Wilkinson, John Owen-Jones, Simon Bowman and Alfie Boe were a sensational combination at the Les Mis anniversary concert in October. A taster of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s much-anticipated Wizard of Oz will also feature – it will be nice to see the deserving winner of Over the Rainbow, Danielle Hope, work her magic on a bigger stage.

If that’s not quite enough tenors for you, there will also be a series of Three Phantoms concerts all over the UK from next Friday (12th November) until February 2011. Performing in Buxton, Bristol and Birmingham to name a few, the tour will feature such esteemed Phantoms as Earl Carpenter and Matthew Cammelle, and will also guest star soprano Rebecca Caine (the original West End Cossette who also happens to be an absolute hoot on Twitter).

If this is a trend, I’d quite like some leading ladies to get involved – who wouldn’t want to see the Three Elphabas or the Four Evitas? Let me know which singing diva or hero you’d most like to see en masse.

I’d love to see Sheridan Smith and Laura Bell Bundy perform together – surely they could come up with a witty name for the double Elle show?
